Ok, let’s start with the basics. When did you join Topcontent and what do you do here?
I joined Topcontent [previously known as Sidekick Content] in May 2017. I joined the team as a Norwegian Content Manager, working with Norwegian projects and tasks (writing, translation, proofreading, QC). Being able to work with content and languages every day was great, but I am also always seeking new challenges and wanted to help out where needed. That’s why I started working more closely with our content managers, sales, HR etc. When the role for Team Leader came up, it felt like a natural step forward for me. In May 2018, I transitioned into Content Manager Team Leader. The exciting thing about this transition was that this role was across all languages, which truly diversified my role here. So that is my role today 🙂 |
What does a typical working day look like for Anita Fosen?
No two days are the same, but the main thing I do is support our in-house Content Managers and freelancers with anything they need. That can be anything, from helping out with projects and/or tasks, to communicating with freelancers, to fixing guides. I also attend weekly meetings with all the content teams – like our Swedish, Norwegian, English and Finnish teams – to check in on how the projects and our Content Managers are doing. Everyone pretty much self-manages their workload, but we all come together to make sure deadlines are being kept and that projects are moving along nicely. We also use this time to discuss any ideas that can improve the quality and/or experience of our freelancers and in-house workers.
I also spend a lot of time in https://app.topcontent.com, even though I rarely do any actual tasks (writing/proofreading/QC). |
What’s the best thing about your job?
I love being able to work with so many amazing people across so many different countries and languages. We are a remote working company, so whilst we do have a small team in Malta, the rest of our team members work from home around the world. I love having the flexibility of being able to take my work anywhere I want in the world.
It’s also great to see the company growing with the help of our in-house workers and freelancers. Just this week, we expanded into new languages, so it’s exciting to be part of this new growth. |
Ok, let’s get personal! Where are you from? Where are you living right now?
So my full name is Anita Fosen and I am from a town called Haugesund on the west coast of Norway, but have lived in Malta since May 2017. For anyone who doesn’t know, Malta is a tiny, sunny island right in the middle of the Mediterranean. It’s a great hub for travelling – which is something I absolutely love to do! |
What else do you love to do? Where would we find you at the weekend?
Living in Malta, I love to explore the island(s) here and, as I said, it’s a great base for travelling and exploring more of Europe and even other parts of the world. On a typical weekend, you might find me in Valletta, sitting outside in the sun, drinking a glass of wine and eating some nibbles – preferably with live music in the background. Just a few days ago, my boyfriend and I adopted a dog who was in need of a new home! So now at the weekend, anywhere dog-friendly is the new go-to hang out for us! |
Ok let’s get even more personal! Throw in a picture of you 🙂 I know you have an amazing smile so let our readers see it!
Do you have anything you want to tell our writers? Maybe any writing tips?
Starting as a writer myself, I have found out firsthand that, overall, preparation and planning are such important parts of doing any task. Writing is not only about the actual writing, but about all the preparation work you need to do before you even start. My best three tips would be:

If someone is thinking about joining our writing team, what advice do you have for them?
Go for it! The great thing about joining our team of freelancers is that you can do it from anywhere in the world and on your own terms. It is flexible and fun, but also a great opportunity to learn more about content and improve your language skills. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me an email! |
